MLS FACILITY USE POLICY
The facilities of Michigan Lutheran Seminary (MLS), a preparatory high school for the WELS college of ministry, were provided as a blessing from God through the sacrificial generosity of the members and supporters of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). We desire that our facilities be used for worship, education, and Christian fellowship and for other purposes that help us to carry out our mission. Although our facilities are not generally open to the public, they are at times made available to approved non- member groups and individuals as a witness to our faith, in a spirit of Christian charity, and as a means of demonstrating the Gospel of Jesus Christ in practice.

Since our school’s facilities are closely connected to our mission, the permission to use them will not be given to persons, groups, or organizations that to our knowledge endorse, promote, advocate, or support practices or activities that conflict with or are not consistent with WELS doctrine and teachings. This doctrine and teachings are summarized in various places, such as the constitution and bylaws of MLS/WELS, the Lutheran Confessions, and the doctrinal statements of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. This restricted facilities use policy is necessary for two important reasons. First, we may not in good conscience materially cooperate in activities or beliefs that are contrary to our doctrine and teachings. Allowing our facilities to be used for such purposes would be, at the very least, tacit cooperation with that activity and would be a clear violation of our doctrine and practice. Second, it is very important that our school present a clear and consistent message to the community, and that its workers, staff, and members conscientiously maintain that message as part of their witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Allowing facilities to be used by persons, groups, or organizations that to our knowledge endorse, promote, advocate, or support practices or activities that are contrary to our doctrine would have a severe, negative impact on the message and values that we strive to promote. It could also cause confusion and scandal to members of the WELS and the community because they may reasonably perceive that by allowing use of our facilities, we agree with or support such activities or practices.

ALL special event requests must be made through this form.

We request at least 2 weeks notice to allow for proper scheduling time and availability of services.

Requests made after 4:00 pm on Friday will not be considered until 8:00 am on the next business day.

To register your event, please do the following:

  1. Fill out the Event Form below and submit it.
  2. The Event Coordinator will check the availability of the facility or equipment that is
    being requested.
  3. If the facility or equipment is available, the request will then be sent to the MLS
    Policy Council for approval.
  4. If the facility or equipment is not available, the Event Coordinator will contact the
    requester and either reschedule for another date/location, or cancel the request.
  5. If the approved request only involves MLS equipment, you will be assigned a
    contact person to assist you with your request.
  6. If the approved request involves an MLS facility, MLS’ Event Coordinator will contact
    you and request that you fill out an event planning form. This will help to make sure
    you will have everything needed when you are on campus.
