WEIGHT ROOM - SCHOOL-YEAR USE (Prof. Retberg, revised 10/15/03)

1. The weight room may be used by students, faculty, and staff of MLS only. Others must gain permission from the weight room supervisor before use.
2. The weight room will normally be open six times each week, for 1.5 hours per session. Exact hours will be posted. Coaches may use the weight room during their practices. Usually, only players on that team may lift during this time.
3. Weight lifters are to wear lifting clothing (gym clothes or sweats) and gym shoes. Male weight lifters are to shower in the locker room. Males should hang their lifting clothes in the drying rooms, not the dormitory. Female weight lifters should shower in the dormitory.
4. Weight room equipment must be used in a safe manner. Students must receive the equivalent of the physical education training course in weight lifting. For safety’s sake, and to protect the school from liability, anyone found using the weight room in an unsafe manner will forfeit use of the facilities.
5. There must be at least two lifters in the weight room whenever it is open for use.
6. Food and drinks are not permitted in the weight room.
7. The only people allowed in the room are those actually lifting. The room is not for loitering or visiting.
8. Users of the weight room must leave the room clean. All equipment is to be returned to its proper place after use.
9. Broken equipment is to be reported immediately to either Prof. Retberg or Prof. Seafert.
10. Non-cooperating students will be barred from using the weight room.
11. Stereos are permitted in the weight room, but the volume should be kept at a level that shows courtesy to all people in the area.
12. The weight room may be open during public functions going on in the gym. However, during such times, stereos are not to be played.
13. Weight lifting is very strenuous. For this reason, each weight lifter should take care not to risk injury by going beyond his/her reasonable ability in the amount of weight each is trying to lift or in the length of time each spends in the weight room during any one session.
14. The green towels in the weight room are there for the lifters to use to keep themselves dry for safe lifting. They are not to be removed from the weight room except to be laundered.

WEIGHT ROOM - SUMMER USE (Prof. Retberg, revised 10/15/03)

1. MLS Students
MLS students are welcome to use the weight room during regular summer hours. Times for morning and evening weight room hours will be posted in the weight room. MLS students may not use the weight room at any time when it is not properly supervised.

2. Faculty and Staff Families
Faculty and staff families are welcome to use the weight room during regular summer hours. They may also use the weight room outside of regular summer hours provided that the faculty or staff member is in the weight room to supervise and oversee proper use of equipment. A faculty or staff member's child who is a college student (has been at college) may act as a supervisor of the weight room. Faculty and staff family members who allow their children to use the weight room are responsible for letting them into the weight room and locking up afterwards. They are also asked to inform Profs. Retberg or Seafert of their plans in advance.

3. Alumni
Alumni are also welcome to use the weight room during regular summer hours. They may also lift when a faculty or staff family member is supervising if they cannot attend during the regular summer hours. Alumni who are not from faculty or staff families may not be considered as supervisors of other lifters.

4. Procedures
a. Safe lifting rules must be known and followed by anyone who uses the weight room (more than one lifter in there, use of spotters, correct breathing techniques, etc.).
b. Entrance to use the weight room is through the Hardin Street doors.
c. No other parts of the school building are to be used by those who have come to use the weight room (the locker room may be used by lifters).
d. The weight room is to be kept orderly and clean after each use.
e. All doors are to be locked upon leaving.
f. Current MLS students or programs have priority for use of the weight room.
