Music & Drama
MLS offers a variety of opportunities for students to participate in musical co-curricular activities. These activities include vocal and instrumental. Students have a variety of opportunities to develop their theatrical skills. Those opportunities include a play, musical, Children’s Theater, and Reader’s Theater.
There are four mixed choruses on campus: Freshman Chorus, Sophomore Chorus, Chapel Choir, and Concert Choir. The students experience singing God’s praises in a balanced group of four or more mixed parts. The students have a great opportunity to learn to sing a cappella and with instrumentation. These choruses give students experience for congregational singing and choirs.
The voices of the MLS Concert Choir practice four times each week and sing in WELS congregations around Michigan as often as twice a month. Juniors and seniors audition for membership. In even-numbered years the choir makes an extended tour outside of Michigan during the Easter holiday.

The MLS Cardinal Band practices three times weekly. There is a band concert each spring, along with performances at the Christmas and Commencement Concerts. The Pep Band, drawn from the band membership, plays at athletic events.
As time and talent permit, MLS also assembles small musical groups to perform at various school functions.
The Handbells play at all the major concerts. In addition they enhance the morning chapel services and do travel to local congregations to play for worship services. They also participate in Handbell Festival each year.
MLS presents a musical in odd-numbered years. Past musicals include “Bye, Bye, Birdie,” “Oklahoma,” and more.
MLS presents a straight play in even-numbered years. Past plays include “45 Seconds from Broadway,” “Arsenic and Old Lace,” “Almost, Maine,” and more.
A Children’s Theater production is presented to the students of our local Lutheran elementary schools. Past Children’s Theater Plays include “The Princess and the Pea,” “The Reluctant Dragon,” and more.
Court Street Players (CSP) is a group of individuals who are interested in the theater arts. Members have opportunities to experience live theater. This is through outings to different venues during the year. Members have the opportunity to participate in numerous capacities during the major production in the spring of the year. Acting, singing, stage painting, audio, make-up, hair, stage crew are just a few of the possibilities that a student can try during a major production.
Hardin St. Harmony (HSH), a group of twelve to sixteen voices selected from the ranks of the Concert Choir, performs popular music and show tunes with choreographed routines.
